Privacy
This page explains what we do with the details you give us when you donate on this site.
Who we are
Salafi Bookstore & Islamic Centre, UK registered charity no. 1083080, 472 Coventry Road, Small Heath, Birmingham B10 0UG. We decide how your details are used, which makes us the controller under UK data protection law.
N Bashir looks after our donors’ data. For anything on this page, email info@salafibookstore.com or call 0121 773 0033.
What we collect
- Your donation: the fund, the amount, whether it repeats each month, and the people or days it covers. For an Other donation, what you tell us it is for.
- Your name and email address. You type these on Stripe’s payment page, and Stripe passes them to us.
- If you add Gift Aid: your declaration, the date you made it, and your home address (house name or number and postcode).
- Your card details go to Stripe only. We never see them.
- Your answers are saved in your own browser while you fill in the form, so you can come back to it. They are deleted when you return from paying, or after 30 days.
A Zakāt or Fidyah donation, or any donation to a masjid, can show your religion. The law treats that as special category data. We hold it under Article 9(2)(d) of the UK GDPR: we are a not-for-profit body with a religious aim, we use it only for our work with the people who donate to us, and we do not share it outside the charity without your consent, apart from the companies below that work for us.
Why we use it
- To take your donation, send your receipt and run a monthly donation until you stop it. The law calls this a contract with you.
- To keep our accounts and our Gift Aid records, which the Charity Commission and HMRC require. This is a legal obligation.
- To claim Gift Aid from HMRC on donations where you asked us to. This is in our legitimate interests and follows your declaration.
- To stop automated abuse of the form. Cloudflare’s robot check reads technical details of your browser and your IP address. This is in our legitimate interests.
We do not use your details for marketing, and we never sell them. No decision about you is made by automated means.
Who receives it
- Stripe takes the payment and keeps a record of it, including your Gift Aid address. Stripe also uses payment data to prevent fraud, under its own privacy policy.
- Google holds our donation records and sends your receipt, as part of the Google Workspace we use.
- Cloudflare runs this website and its robot check.
- Our Gift Aid system, on a server we rent, reads your declaration from Stripe to prepare the claim.
- HMRC receives your name, house name or number, postcode and the amount of each donation when we claim Gift Aid.
Stripe, Google and Cloudflare may hold data outside the UK, including in the United States. They protect it with the safeguards UK law requires for such transfers.
How long we keep it
We keep a record of each donation until 6 years after the end of the financial year it was made in, as HMRC requires for a charitable company. A Gift Aid declaration for a monthly donation is kept while the donations continue, then until 6 years after the end of the financial year of the last one. After that we delete it.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the details we hold about you, ask us to correct them, or ask us to delete them. We may have to keep a donation record for as long as the law requires. You can object to the uses that rest on our legitimate interests, ask us to limit what we do with your details, and ask for them in a form you can take elsewhere. You can cancel your Gift Aid declaration at any time.
Email info@salafibookstore.com and we will reply within a month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your details, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
Do you have to give us these details?
Without your name, email address and card, we cannot take your donation or send you a receipt. Gift Aid is your choice. We need your home address only if you add it.
